Wireless Camera Instructions
1. Set your display to input mode.
2. Twist the antenna into the receiver.
3. Connect the receiver to the monitor with the RCA video cable.
4. Connect the 9v or 12v AC/DC adaptor or 9v battery into the power jack of the receiver.
5. Connect the 8v AC/DC adaptor or 9v battery into the power jack of the camera.
6. Turn the tune knob very slowly on the receiver until you see a clear picture.
Troubleshooting
1. If you don't see a picture, make sure your display is set to input mode (or the input channel).
2. When the receiver is powered, the small red light will glow. When it is then connected properly, you should see static on your display. You will not see a clear picture until the receiver is tuned to the correct frequency.
3. If your picture won’t stay still, you can fix it by continuing to turn the tune knob. Wireless cameras have unstable “ghost” frequencies which the receiver will also pickup.
4. If your picture has static, the camera may be too far away, or the signal may be blocked by too many walls. Try playing with the location of the receiver and camera. Also, devices such as air conditioners send out frequencies which can interfere with signal transmitted by the camera.
5. If you have two cameras running at once, they can also potentially interfere with each other. Power off all 1.2 GHz devices when troubleshooting your camera.
6. If the picture is blurry, our non-hidden cameras have adjustable lenses. You can adjust the focus by turning the circular surface surrounding the lens with your fingers.
7. Double check all cables to make sure they are plugged in all the way.
Frequently Asked Questions
· How do I use a wireless spy cam?
Position the spy cam in a well-lit area so you will be able to see a picture
when it's setup. Connect the camera and receiver to power supplies (9v battery
or ac adaptor). Next, connect the receiver to your television using the included
RCA cable. Also connect the antenna to the receiver and screw it in all the way. Turn the tuning knob very slowly on the
receiver until you see a clear picture on your television.
· Will other people be able to pick up the
signal from a wireless cam?
They will only be able to view it if they also own a portable 1.2 GHz receiver and
know where to look for the signal. If that's a concern, we also sell wired cams,
which can be directly connected to your TV or VCR.
· Can I run more than one wireless cam at
once?
Up to four 2.4 GHz and two 1.2 GHz cameras can operate at the same time.
However, 1.2 GHz cameras are often set to the same frequency and can
conflict.
Thus,
you can often only run one at once.
· How good is the picture quality?
The quality is better than a computer webcam, but not as good as a
camcorder.
· How do I hide the spy cam in an object?
To drill the hole, I recommend using a drill press with a drill bit that is
slightly larger than the size of the pinhole lens. Brush a tiny dab of superglue
on the edge of the face of the camera, but not so much that it would possibly
flow onto the lens. Press the camera against your object so that the lens is
visible through the hole. Hold in place for a minute until you are sure the
superglue is dry, then use epoxy to create a permanent bond.
· Do the spy cams work in the dark?
The cameras work well in regular indoor lighting. They will work in low
light situations, but the quality will be reduced. If you want a night vision
spy cam, we can special order it for you.
· Are the cameras weatherproof?
No, but we sell weatherproof night vision cameras. Alternatively, you can
make a transparent plastic or glass case for the camera so it won't be exposed
to water.
· How can I adjust the focus of the spy cam?
There are two little holes on the face of the spy cam which can be adjusted
using a pin, paper clip, or simply by turning the whole surface gently like a
knob. If the camera is already mounted in an object, such as a clock or fire
detector, the focus is locked and doesn't need to be adjusted. All of our
cameras ship with the focus already set to the ideal setting, so you probably
won't need to change it.
· The reception is poor on the receiver. How
can I improve it?
You may be picking up a signal on the wrong frequency. Turn the knob all the
way before turning it back to the frequency that looks best.
· How can I setup a camera to record while I'm away? I want to be able to view it live over the internet.
There are a few different ways to setup a security
system. The best way, when using only one camera, is to buy an inexpensive
SVIDEO / RCA / TV input card (such as the kworld brand) for your computer from
newegg.com. You can then use the TV viewing program that comes with it, or
download a program off download.com. For internet broadcasting, we recommend a
program called Active WebCam, which is inexpensive, reliable, and fast to setup.
For a multi-camera setup, you can use a quad processor, which takes four inputs
and combines them into a split screen display (see our live demo on our website
for an example).
Misc tips:
1. Your computer may be stolen if you are trying to catch burglars in the act.
For this reason, you may want to have the images uploaded to the internet (such
as your email account) regularly.
2. If you have a router controlling your internet access, you'll need to setup
port forwarding to allow your computer to do web hosting. This will require a
good knowledge of computer networking to setup! If you connect directly to the
internet though a broadband cable connection, it's likely you will not have to
do any port forwarding.
3. We recommend using the quad processor instead of a DVR because the active
webcam software is more compatible. You will be able to view the pictures from
any computer, even at libraries and internet cafe's.
Alternative solutions:
1. For a multi-camera setup, you can use a motion-activated DVR (digital video
recorder).
2. Another good home security solution is our VCR camera, which records directly
to tape. It can record up to 10 hours straight using a 10 hour VHS tape.
